Cam Ranh International Airport Opens New Terminal T2
Vietnam Airlines will officially move all flight operations at Cam Ranh International Airport to the new terminal T2, which was just opened in June 29.
The new three-level terminal is much larger than the old terminal, with 50,000 square meters in floor space, and expects to handle eight million passengers per year by 2030. The salanganes bird nest-inspired terminal is designed to become the first cultural attraction when passengers land in Khanh Hoa.
Vietnam Airlines will open eight check-in counters in the terminal’s left wing. Its business lounge is set up on the second floor, with an area of nearly 210 square meters, and is able to accommodate 70 guests.
Khanh Hoa Province, known for its beach city of Nha Trang, welcomed 5.5 million visitors last year. According to the Vietnam National Administration of Tourism, over 2.44 million visitors travelled to Khanh Hoa in the first five months of 2018, up 20.8% against the same period one year earlier. Of these, international arrivals accounted for more than 1.17 million, up almost 50% year-on-year. Such figures are expected to rise further, with the new airport terminal becoming operational before the 2019 National Tourism Year hosted by Khanh Hoa.
Last year, Vietnam Airlines transported over 730,000 passengers to Khanh Hoa, a year-on-year increase of 35%. The number of air passengers transported by the national air carrier to the province rose considerably in the first half of 2018, with nearly 500,000 passengers. Last March, Vietnam Airlines launched direct air service between Seoul, South Korea and Khanh Hoa, with four flights per week.
